I do wish there was a company selling "dumb" EVs. No cellular, no OTA updates, no cameras and so on. Just battery, motor, motor controller and auxiliaries. Like a cheap car from 2005. A DIY conversion is the only way to achieve this as far as I know.
There definitely are a couple, such as SLATE.
Neat!
Another one I'm excited about is Edison Motors. The guy started the company because he got really pissed off about all the recent changes away from standardized parts and towards individual model parts.
