as capitalism took final control of the last functioning government and ceased all planetary protections in favor of profits, the last few remaining oxygen producers finally died triggering the death of earth. All humans alive didn't even realize they all took their last breath, slowly closed their eyes and fell asleep for the last final time.

capitalism wins... apparently.
