This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.
Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.
Posting Guidelines
All posts should follow this basic structure:
- Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
- What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
- Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
- Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
- Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.
Rules
- Post only about bans or other sanctions that you have received from a mod or admin.
- Don’t use private communications to prove your point. We can’t verify them and they can be faked easily.
- Don’t deobfuscate mod names from the modlog with admin powers.
- Don’t harass mods or brigade comms. Don’t word your posts in a way that would trigger such harassment and brigades.
- Do not downvote posts if you think they deserved it. Use the comment votes (see below) for that.
- You can post about power trippin’ in any social media, not just lemmy. Feel free to post about reddit or a forum etc.
- If you are the accused PTB, while you are welcome to respond, please do so within the relevant post.
Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.
Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.
YPTB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.
Some acronyms you might see.
- PTB - Power-Tripping Bastard: The commenter agrees with you this was a PTB mod.
- YDI - You Deserved It: The commenter thinks you deserved that mod action.
- YDM new - You Deserved More: The commenter thinks you got off too lightly.
- BPR - Bait-Provoked Reaction: That mod probably overreacted in charged situation, or due to being baited.
- CLM - Clueless Mod: The mod probably just doesn't understand how their software works.

One of the first people I ever blocked and someone I've been side-eyeing ever since he switched from lemmy to piefed. He's generally been doing a better job, but this is definitely inline with original recipe PJ.
yooooo same, him and UniversalMonk were my first two "nope, every account you've ever made and every community they moderate need to be out of my sight forever" blocks. Fortunately he doesn't seem to spread as virulently as Monk does.
What did Monk do? He's pretty chill.

EDIT: Apparently I was getting mass stalked by a bot meant to give a negative impression of UM and we've never actually interacted
EDIT: User updated to mention that he didn't interact with me. I think I was a bit too harsh in saying he was lying, when it looks like he was just mistaken. So now all good.
Never once have I ever told anyone to kill themselves. Not on Lemmy. Not on Reddit. Not in real life. Ever. In college I worked suicide hotline for 2 hours every single night for minimum wage, after my regular job, and I am still shook by some of my work there.
So what you are saying is so far outside my personality set, that I can only think you must have some ulterior motive by saying this.
You are straight outright lying. Please provide proof. Many hate for the shit that I actually do and say, so there's no reason to lie about what I do. You are straight up lying right now. I've never even implied anyone to kill themselves.

Hmm, how sure are you that it was UM, and not one of the (many) troll impersonation accounts over the past few years? He responded to your comment but since you have him blocked I'll repost it below, since I think you would want to see it:
I'm not suggesting UM is some sort of angel, but a lot of impersonation accounts were spun up to get him banned from LW since he was advocating for third party in the last US election. The libs were losing their mind over it at the time. I'd be quite surprised if it was from one of his real accounts.
Thank you for following up. I'm pretty easy-going about most of the false things said about me, and can laugh them off. But suicide is something I have very personal experience with in my family, so that comment got me more irked than usual.
As infamous as my name is, even most of the imposters are banned by now (I think). So I find it very hard to believe that even someone faking my username would have been able to follow the poster around and say that stuff for long. Until I see a screenshot, I'm calling BS on the entire story.
From what I know of him, Quill is being sincere, and I do believe that it happened. But as I said my money is on it being a troll account.

All the posts are gone now. This was about 9 months ago so I haven't kept any records. I don't know how that fits into any timelines. Again, I'm sorry about this genuine misunderstanding
Hey brother, no worries, no harm. Thanks for being open enough to look into it and update things. I made plenty of enemies on Lemmy because I advocate for free speech, third-party voting, socialism, and diversity of opinions. And they got even more angry when they found out they couldn't bully me off of Lemmy. So they started troll accounts, misrepresent what I say and stand for, etc.
I'm glad you're not one of those enemies. I got no beef with you and thank you for the updates.
probably was a spin up troll account then. it's also something i take very seriously since i come from a similar training and background. i just assumed it was the genuine article since it was the first interaction i had. if you can tell me which UMs are the real ones i'll unblock

I mostly post in my own socialist communities. If you don't like socialism, cool. Glad you have blocked my communities, but it's silly to say I spread "virulently."
Unless of course you mean people like you who keep randomly mentioning my name all the time and keeping me feeling famous. Which is awesome. So yes, keep doing that. I like the attention that you all give me. :)

Which I'm realizing now in my head I imagine them as the ~~three~~ straight white dudes of this experience

Hey, sorry about that. The account I'd interacted with was the exact same set of interactions I've come to expect from "well meaning" straight white men who as soon as you say they're perpetuating something harmful go full obliteration mode because they expect you to exist in service of their own perfect self-actualization path instead of as human beings with thoughts and feelings. I'm sorry I promoted falsehoods about you thinking it was the real you. I assumed I knew what you were like based on a simulacrum intentionally created to distort my and others' perceptions of you. I will open my eyes to you and see you with my observing eye and my assessing eye, and determine who I think you are afresh from here.
