Look at these poor enlisted kids. I can't imagine what kind of monster would be happy to see them die.
Unironically? Some of those were kids, back then. The photos make them look a lot older because they were tied, hungry, dehydrated, and filthy. Kids were lying about their age far more successfully then than now.
