I'm not super familiar with Leopard armor specs, but isn't 25 mm super low? I suppose it can be fine since the crew is not longer in the turret and the system offers upgrades in other areas (mainly the gun).

Concept of the Leo 1 was: When you can't have enough armor to not get penetrated. Don't get hit. So they made it mobile. Mobility is the leopards ace card.

Modern leo2s are that as well, very high mobility and the latest models get great composite armor.

This a Leopard 1, these are closer to "tank destroyers" than more modern main battle tanks such as later model Leopards.
