Honestly, I think the mechanisms in NMS and Starfield are both serviceable but not perfect.

What's funny is I was literally about to reinstall Starfield because I haven't played the latest update and was in the mood to play around with the ship building again. Then this NMS update came out...

Starfield has the problem with where the doors will be and the confusion with the weapons classes/types. In NMS I don’t like that you need to buy everything in a different screen before assembling them.
