I sometimes disagree with this video when it comes to frugalism. Frugalism is more than breaking the cycle of overconsumption and over-wanting to consume. But from a simple living perspective, breaking from always wanting more and enjoy the abondance we already have is a clear win.

Not related to this post here, but personally I've chosen to go the dumbphone route because I'm sick of the expectation of needing to be avaliable 24/7 amongst other reasons

I really liked this article. I frowned a bit at "buy a slow-cooker". "Buy" on a simple living advice? But it got better with a simple recipe and indeed

Simple cooking = simple living

The relationship advice were generally good, which is a lot of compliment for some internet content and I 100% agree on the part about forgiveness.

Decluttering is to me an important part of simple living.
The act of decluttering means to detach ourselves to what we own. Having a declutter space is having a calmer space but also one that is easier to maintain. Preventing clutter from entering our home force us to be more conscious, mindful and purposeful about our consumption.

“I’m very happy that people enjoy the strip and have become devoted to it,” Watterson said. They certainly have. After little more than a year of syndication, Calvin and Hobbes appears in 250 newspapers. “But it seems that with a lot of the marketing stuff, the incentive is just to cash in. It’s not understanding what makes the strip work.”

So despite dangled millions, Watterson has ended discussions to license Calvin and Hobbes for greeting cards. Proposals to animate the strip for television have been placed on hold. One day, there could be a Calvin doll or a stuffed Hobbes because “they (items) are pretty much advertisements for the strip . . . they’re not trying to do the job of the comic strip, they’re not giving jokes or developing characters.”

Preserving the integrity and fullness of his characters, is cardinal with Watterson.

Similarly, he’s opposing attempts to intrude upon his unassuming life style. Sleeping late, enjoying slow moments, knowing only simple concerns are his pleasures. Maybe as a superstition, he feels that if anything is allowed to change Watterson it also will change Calvin and Hobbes.

The FlyLady method is great to teach people who to manage their house but also for people who need to automate the way they maintain it in a way that simplying their life and reduce mental charge.

Most of the cleaning or organisation method/video you find on the internet are either related to FlyLady or to Marie Condo. The method used to be explained on flylady.net website but now that FlyLady has retired, the url is now for an advert for an app to follow the method. Fortunatly there is still the book and for the french speaker most of the website was translate on bonenvol.fr There is also many more community-build content about the method.

housemate and I are sick of smartphone AI and spyware!! looking for cheap, refurbished cellphones from the 00s

  • the problem: all models we have found run on 2G, which is rapidly being phased out by all US carriers
  • desired features: basic call and text functionality, durability, physical buttons, fits in pocket

I like the videos of deinfluencing. I find that there is not enough of good ones. Many are about not buying very specific item you might have never heard about. I like the one like that when they also tell you why you should buy less and not buy a broader category of item.

To me simple living means decluttering and frugality. It is synonymous with contenment. It means having less, not in a minimaliste sense of having empty space, but having carefully and purposefully chosen items that are fewer and suits our life better...
Which means simple living is also deeply linked to anticonsumption, at the antipodes of a life style where we always want more of things we don't really understand and where we don't really enjoy what we have.

I'm slowling going thought this podcast about de decluttering. I find it a bit repetitive sometime but it is good to hear people motivating the kind of lifestyle you want to adopt. It is not easy to change a mindset but so worth it.

Anxiety levels are on the rise worldwide, especially among our youth. Many factors contribute to this trend. We are constantly “on”, striving to ensure we are scheduling for every moment. But in doing so, we are potentially depriving our brains and bodies of the downtime they need to reset and recharge.

We need to embrace the pause. It is a space where creativity can prosper, emotions can be regulated, and the nervous system can reset.

I came across the magazine "The Simple Things" while browsing Libby (library app), and thought it might fit here. It is all about finding joy in the simple things in life, so has recipes that focus on the seasons, nature facts, craft ideas, and more.

It is based in the UK, so sometimes the content can be a bit location specific (such as travel suggestions), but I still find it to be a good read when I am feeling stressed.

They also have a blog on their website: https://www.thesimplethings.com/
