Welcome to the weekend! Here's this week's open thread, so feel free to talk about anything that strikes your fancy, shmup related or not!

I just watched Aktane's 1cc of "Paro Paro" which is a doujin tribute to Parodius, and it's available for free here. I haven't played it myself yet, but it looks pretty good! (At least good enough to make it the cover image for this week's thread.)

I spent some time with Bullet Soul: Infinite Burst this week, and I'm liking it so far! Burst mode is definitely the way to go, for me.

So, what's everyone up to? Play anything interesting lately?

Seicross was released by Nichibutsu in 1986 for an 8-bit home console.

In this shooting game, you pilot a hover bike to save the peaceful people of Petra, whose homeland has been invaded by a once-coexisting tribe that has turned to evil.

As you rescue the captive people of Petra from enemy territory, your bike’s weight increases, causing it to consume fuel energy much faster—but in return, you’ll earn massive bonuses upon clearing the stage!

An interesting look at a pre-Raiden Nichibutsu shooter!

So... no DoDonPachi Saidaiojou on PC. No original DoDonPachi on PC. But... a new take on DoDonPachi Daifukkatsu with new stuff added? What is going on here?

I mean of course I've wishlisted it.

In addition to the info in the article, Play Asia reports that there will be multi-language subtitles for Japanese, English, Korean, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), French, Spanish, and Portuguese.

Well here's a weird one. Special physical editions aren't anything new, but I haven't seen a retailer-exclusive one in a little while (not for shmups, anyway).

Damn AI and damn the wars :(

It appears this new entry will be just as brutal as its ancestors :D

As noted at gamespark.jp: https://game.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/kikaku/2095764.html

I played a fair amount of Fantasy Zone on my friend's Master System when I was very young. I thought it was an old game back then, but I had no idea I'd still be playing it all these years later!

What's up, shmup fans! Another week in the books, at last. Welcome to the weekly open thread! Any topic goes!

Been working a bunch this week, but I've been checking out Image Fight via MAME. Man, people talk about Truxton being tough--Image Fight is no joke! Irem's not known for its top-down shooters, but I think they did a pretty good job with IF, as hard as it is. Very different than the Toaplan and Compile stuff I'm used to.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

I played a Steam demo for this a while back--it had some bullet visibility issues, but otherwise was fun.

(Usual apoligies for the machine translation link, but again--no English source was available at post time.)

I know very little about these games! I did find a video explaining Ilbero Swamp (bad audio warning for the first 12 minutes or so): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTSj5pQDWCU

Meanwhile, Karous Beast of Re:Eden was actually released in the West on the Nintendo 3DS of all things. Nintendo Life even has a review of it: https://www.nintendolife.com/reviews/3ds-eshop/karous_-the_beast_of_reeden-

I think these games qualify as somewhat obscure in the English-speaking world, so it's exciting to see them come to Steam. Hopefully they'll get their day in the sun!

It's the weekend once again, and that means we throw the comm open to discussion of any and everything folks want to talk about! And of course that means you can talk about any games you're playing, too!

It's been a busy week, and I haven't felt focused enough to play any shmups, but did a little grinding in Xenoblade Chronicles X--after neglecting that game for like a month.

So, what's everyone up to?

Quite a few shmups included in these collections!

Kinda cute. Kinda weird. This one flew under my radar during NextFest, and I only just noticed the full release was out.

Happy weekend, y'all! Glad to have made it, hope you're all doing well!

Opening up the floor yet again for anyone who wants to talk about anything they like! Or just to tell everybody what they've been playing/plan on playing. No pressure, we keep it casual here.

Me? I recently installed RetroDeck on my Steam Deck, which led to me getting back into Ikaruga. I never did get a 1CC on it, and I'm not sure that I'm ever going to, but I'm having a great time nonetheless.

I should try Radiant Silvergun one of these days maybe...

So what's everybody up to?
