She's not levitating, she's in microgravity. Hearthkeepers often meditate while in torpor, which is the closest thing to sleep for monkey foxes. They don't lose consciousness during torpor (indeed they can't lose consciousness without causing brain death) but they are less aware of their surroundings and more lethargic.

And this is the hearth she keeps. A hearthkeeper's duty is to bring light and warmth, both physical and spiritual, to those around her. In ancient times this meant tending a bonfire for the tribe, but a hearthkeeper's duties evolved as monkey foxes climbed the tech tree. Bonfires gave way to sheltered hearths, which became coal-fire power plants, then other fossil fuels, fission reactors, and finally the fusion reactor, or star hearth. A hearthkeeper must be a competent engineer as well as a spiritual leader.

This duty of tending a hearth, along with the restriction that only women may become hearthkeepers, has humans comparing hearthkeepers to the Vestal Virgins of ancient Rome.

The lyrics are a translation of the French song "L'homme armé" which Breq (Justice of Toren) used to sing in the Ancillary Justice book.

Gorgeous lil pixel art based game by a French developer (so yay, non American!) basically a modern Heroes of Might and Magic 2. I spent a lot of time just zooming at the world map and looking at things, all of which are beautiful pixel art.

Anyway, it's been going on sale and I figured folks in this community might appreciate it!

I often come across my artworks on Pinterest, but recently i saw one of my pieces labeled as AI-generated by the platform. it gave me a strange feeling.

the Internet has never been my main source of references, but lately I've been relying even more on my own photos and on observing real life. as i mentioned in my stories before, leaving aside the well-known ethical concerns around AI training, there's something that personally makes me uncomfortable: I need everything in my art to be intentional and thoughtfully created. auto-generated art and ideas take away that sense of intention, and pixel art particularly requires thinking about individual pixels. so i can't imagine adding generated elements into my work, it would just feel foreign.

so this is the kind of chaos we're in: human art can be labeled as AI, scraped to train AI models, any image can now be AI-modified by X users right in the comments, and so on.

but i find peace in the meticulous process of creation and it's not possible to steal the human experience. I simply love drawing too much to give up.
