Hello, northern neighbours! 👋

I came up from Calgary for the Sigur Rós show and had an amazing weekend. I was only planning to come up for the day, but there was so much going on that I ended up making a whole weekend out of it. I’m a little embarrassed to admit this was only my third visit, but this trip really changed my perspective on your lovely city. I usually head to Vancouver once or twice a year for concerts, but now I’ll be keeping a close eye on your concert listings so I can come up more often.

I took the bus up on Saturday and made a beeline for An Chay. The spicy sate soup was honestly one of my top ten food experiences this year. Sooooo good. I even went back on Sunday because I couldn’t get enough of it.

After that feast, I saw the Pro Coro Canada concert at St. Josaphat’s. The music was absolutely gorgeous, and the venue made it even more breathtaking. I almost wished the concert went on for four hours just so I could soak up more of the atmosphere.

Later, I went to the Starlite Room for the CJSR party and the vibes were immaculate. It was my first time there, and I completely understand why it’s such a legendary venue. I wrapped up the night with some late-night bites at Fu’s, which also had great vibes.

On Sunday, I checked out Big Stuff at the Citadel and then headed to the Muttart. Sitting in the tropical pyramid surrounded by warmth and humidity was perfect, and I walked out just in time for one of the most stunning sunsets I’ve ever seen.

Monday started with a tour of CKUA, and I was really impressed by the building and the people there. Everyone was incredibly kind. The cherry on top was of course Sigur Rós. It was the best show I’ve ever seen, and the Winspear truly deserves all the praise it gets for acoustics.

I mostly stayed around the arts district this trip, but next time I’ll definitely explore more. All the more reason to come back.

Thanks for one of the most fun weekends I’ve had this year. You’re lucky to have such a vibrant arts scene, and I can’t wait to visit again!!

Any tips on where to find good event listings? I want to keep up with what’s happening and plan my next visit.
