It is depicting anasyrma. In some cultures that has traditionally had the power to ward of evil (for example in mine, it has had the power to protect and curse. It is called "harakointi" in Finnish).

It's a trick to drive engagement. Posts with a tame word like this censored gets posts from people who object to or are confused by the censorship. Then others start responding saying that the censorship makes sense or doesn't undermine the basic point of the post. It doesn't really matter on a site like lemmy, but on a Meta platform it increases clicks and therefore income.
