Is there a Slackware package for that?

[–] MistressRemilia@lemmy.sdf.org 0 points 6 months ago (3 children)

I cleared the browser cache, tried on two machines, and also logged out/back-in with Jerboa. Nothing. It's gotta be on the server side.

I already did.

I really wish the admins would actually use Lemmy themselves, even if it's just a tab they check every few days in their browser to make sure it's not dead or hasn't stopped federating. Feels subpar.

I love it, it's closer to Unix and is very KISS-oriented. I plan to use it until I die or can't use Linux anymore because it died.

It's a fun hobby to get into, tbh

Music from the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive game Ranger-X (aka Ex-Ranza), composed by Yoshinobu Hiraiwa and Noriyuki Iwadare. This game was developed by GAU Entertainment and published by Sega. It utilizes both a Yamaha YM2612 six-channel FM chip and a clone Texas Instruments SN76489 four-channel PSG chip. One of my favorite games and soundtracks :D

This was played using Benben, a music player for Linux. You can find Benben here: https://chiselapp.com/user/MistressRemilia/repository/benben/

Also, a quick note: I'm changing to doing this videos every other week, so no video next week.

Music from the Famicom/NES game Journey to Silius, composed by Naoki Kodaka. This game was developed and published by Sunsoft, and utilizes a Ricoh 2A03 chip with five channels..

Benben is a pet project of mine that I've been working on for a few years now. It's a fast and efficient command line audio player and audio converter for Linux and other Unix-like systems with an oldschool-inspired interface. AppImages for Linux x86-64 are available for those who don't want to build from source.

It supports multiple formats, including VGM and MIDI (hence chiptunes), and is especially suited to people who organize their music in folders, and for those who prefer to use terminals instead of GUIs.

You've probably seen my Retro Chiptune channel here where I use it to play old video game music and mod files :-P

Formats:

  • VGM - all chips supposed by SatouSynth
    • Uncompressed (.vgm)
    • GZip compressed (.vgz)
    • ZStandard compressed (.vgzst)
    • BZip2 compressed (.vgb)
  • MPEG-1
    • MPEG-1 Layer III (.mp3)
    • MPEG-1 Layer II (.mp1)
    • MPEG-1 Layer I (.mp1)
  • Ogg Vorbis
  • Opus
  • FLAC
  • General MIDI (.mid)
  • MUS (.mus)
  • All module formats supported by libxmp
  • Commodore 64 SID (.sid)
  • RIFF WAVE (.wav)
  • QOA, the Quite OK Audio format
  • XQAF, the Extended Quite OK Audio Format
  • WavPack

Music from the Neo Geo game Eight Man, composed by Yoshihiko Kitamura, Yoko Osaka, and MAKIKO. This game was developed by Pallas and published by SNK. It utilizes a Yamaha YM2610 chip capable of 4-channel FM synthesis, 3-channel square wave generation, and 7-channel ADPCM playback.

I love how quirky and oldschool-Anime-ish sounding this soundtrack is :3

This was played using a release candidate of Benben v0.7.0, an open-source music player I wrote for Linux. You can get Benben here (the final v0.7.0 release comes out October 1st, 2025!): https://chiselapp.com/user/MistressRemilia/repository/benben/

Music from the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive game Sub-Terrania, composed by Jesper Kyd. This game was developed by Zyrinx and published by Sega. It uses a Yamaha YM2612 FM synthesis chip, and a Texas Instruments SN76489 PSG chip.

I only looped these once these times since the songs are so long.
