You know you can just turn off seeing these games in your store preferences, right?

I think you've missed the point OP was making.
It was less about how to stop seeing recommendations, but more about why tag-based recommendations exist when they're so ineffective.
But are they though? In general, I've been quite happy with the tag based recommendations; they do fit the games I normally play. Of course exceptions happen, but in general I feel like the feature works pretty well.
It's still better than methods that existed before. Your vibe-based idea is still basically the same as the tags. I mean, who decides the vibes? Other users still. And remember, the system isn't just for recommendations; it's to help search for things, too.
It's a bit like the saying "democracy is the worst form of government, exept all others that have been tried."
I think tags shouldn't binary yes or no but a spectrum, yes the witcher 3 has sexual content but barely, it shouldn't contribute as much as the other tags
Are you telling me you didnt wank to the Prince below Oxenfurt or Marlene when she offered soup? To each their own I guess...
Ok, vibes based category system. Maybe we could let users determine what the vibes are, and label the game accordingly. They could assign multiple labels to each game as they liked, and we could use those labels to try and guess what is relevant to each user. We could even call these labels 'tags'!
you look at the games which the user has played most, or where they've unlocked a certain percentage of the achievements, or something like that, then you build an ever-evolving profile of the kind of gamer 'personality' the user has. Then, to recommend a new game to them, you compare their profile with similar profiles, and whatever games the other profile has played (to a statistically significant degree) that you haven't yet played is the recommendation.
