I have the Russian invasion of Ukraine as the Japanese occupation of Manchuria. It's not really a close match because it's not as much of a proxy war, but it does match with imperial powers expanding their territories to their neighbors

That’s a pretty good comparison, I just likening it solely on the basis of “supposed military power gets repeatedly embarrassed by numerically inferior enemy”
