The Ministry of Telecommunications in Sana’a revealed in a press conference on Tuesday that the cumulative losses to the telecommunications and postal sector as a result of 11 years of aggression and blockade have exceeded $6 billion and 265 million.

A statement issued by the conference explained that the Saudi-led coalition directly targeted the infrastructure, destroying telephone exchanges and communication towers, isolating more than 114 residential areas, and affecting more than 14 million citizens in terms of telecommunications and postal services.

The statement indicated that the coalition airstrikes targeted 1,114 telecommunications and postal facilities, 711 of which were completely destroyed. The attacks resulted in the deaths of 80 workers in the sector, in addition to the blockade of three submarine cables and the seizure of approximately 6.8 million SIM cards and vital equipment.

The Ministry emphasized that international silence constitutes indirect complicity, holding the coalition countries legally responsible for the losses and violations, and demanding the opening of ports, the reactivation of submarine cables, and the improvement of telecommunications services for citizens.

The statement added that the sector will remain steadfast and continue to perform its role despite all the challenges, until it fully recovers its health and sovereignty.

More ongoing imperialism & retaliatory response:

One Lebanese citizen martyred, 14 others wounded in Israeli enemy airstrikes on several areas in southern Lebanon – SABA

Meanwhile, Hezbollah has reported regular retaliatory attacks on Israeli military bases and troops, including in the strategic border town of Khiam in recent days and in the village of Qawzah on Tuesday.

Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) reported attacks in the country’s south and east, as well as near Beirut, following a night of bombardment on the capital’s southern suburbs.

On Tuesday morning in south Beirut, reporters witnessed vast destruction near the site of an overnight Israeli strike, with rubble piled up and debris covering the street.

The overnight strikes hit infrastructure in Beirut and other areas of Lebanon. In Bshamoun, a town in the Aley region southeast of Beirut, Abbas Qassem, 55, wept as he surveyed the damage to his unoccupied flat near the targeted apartment.

"There's nothing left. It's all burned or destroyed... No walls, the windows are gone, the facade is gone, all my hard work has been lost," he said. "What have I done to have my home destroyed? I'm just a normal person," added Qassem, who works for the state telecoms provider.

Lebanon’s health ministry said three people were killed, including a three-year-old girl, and reported five others killed in Israeli strikes in south Lebanon.

Israel has killed at least 1,039 people and displaced more than one million others during more than three weeks of the latest aggression.

Hezbollah began launching retaliatory attacks on Israel earlier this month after Tel Aviv bombed southern and eastern Lebanon on a daily basis in violation of the November 2024 ceasefire.

Israel Katz, the minister of military affairs, said on Tuesday that the military "will control... the security zone up to the Litani" under the pretext of establishing a so-called security and buffer zone.

He claimed that displaced Lebanese residents would not be allowed to return south of the river "until security is guaranteed for the residents of the north" of the Israeli-occupied territories.

Katz stated that Israel's military was "following the model of Rafah and Beit Hanoun"—two cities that were effectively razed during more than two years of brutal assault on Gaza and remain under Israeli military occupation.

In recent days, Israeli forces have blown up bridges and destroyed civilian infrastructure in the area south of the Litani.

That area had already seen vast destruction since Israel launched its aggression against Lebanon in 2023, following the brutal war on Gaza, and despite a November 2024 ceasefire.

Many border villages were largely empty of residents even before the Israeli army resumed heavy bombardment and incursions into the area more than three weeks ago, when the latest Israeli aggression erupted.

This is the most WarClaude™-coded thing I have ever seen. Bombing the meteorology institute on World Weather day was also like an AI joke. Moronic and devoid of anything approaching "strategy".

Egypt will begin curbing some electricity use, including by ordering shops and cafes to close earlier, as the North African energy importer grapples with soaring global fuel costs caused by the Iran war.

Starting March 28, malls, eateries and retailers will all have to shut by 9 p.m. for five days of the week, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly told reporters on Wednesday. At weekends, they’ll need to close at 10 p.m. — still early for many in the country of 110 million, where shopping and dining long into the night is common.

The moves show the challenges the latest Middle Eastern conflict in forcing on Egypt, which relies on natural gas imports for much of its power generation and had been striving to revamp the economy after securing a $57 billion global bailout and devaluing its currency in 2024.

Other rationing will include turning off illuminated advertising billboards and reducing public lighting to a safe minimum. Many government buildings will also close by 6 p.m., while authorities are considering mandating work-from-home one or two days a week for both the public and private sectors.

“We need to begin to ration the amounts of fuel and electricity we’re using,” Madbouly said. The steps will be reviewed after a month and “God willing, if the crisis ends,” will be reversed, he added.

Madbouly said that before the US-Israeli war against Iran erupted on Feb. 28, the nation’s gas-import bill was about $560 million a month. It’s now around $1.65 billion due to the spike in global oil and gas prices caused by chaos in the Persian Gulf.

“We’re trying to take the situation in a gradual way” so as not to rattle the economy, the premier said. He described limiting energy consumption as preferable to raising fuel prices again, as the government did last week.
