We walked around a park and talked about The Society of the Spectacle by Guy Debord. It was mostly yapping, nothing of any importance but it was really nice. The weather was pleasant enough and the ducks were so cute. We watched the sun set on these beautiful rolling clouds in the West from a bridge over the water and discussed our current projects and problems. I liked hearing the birds as they spoke about their lives.

I wonder where all of them will end up. One of them is finishing his PhD. in computer chip architecture (or something like that idk how tech works) and I think he plans on moving back to India. I hope it goes well for him, he seems like he really cares about the world. Maybe I should get his name and see what he publishes in the future. Another is getting their degree in aerospace engineering and one of their designs will actually see space soon.

It's unfortunate I know so little about the rest of them. All of our meetings were focused on the books and shared jokes/complaints about the world. I wish I was more sociable and brave, I'd like to be able to remember more than just their politics.

Tangential relationships are strange

From what I could gather I was with my ex at a witch's coven in uKKKraine. It was all women and none of them were nice to me as a man. They made me carry around a carcass of some weird beast. They showed me a shoebox that had living toys in it that were brought to life by magic. Then Russia attacked, and in the confusion I ran away through the woods.

Then I had a dream I was like an anime super hero who could punch through steel. I had to prove my power by punching a nuclear weapon and blow it up.

That dream was kind of cool, the first dream not so much, weird and ominous.

Not proud to admit but I got some friend chicken for dinner since I didn't feel like cooking. Fast forward to me being woken up at 2:30 am and it coming out of me like water fuckin' A, my ass was sleeping and now I'm up

I don't have a Reddit account. Was searching for something related to astrophotography, clicked a link to go to Reddit, not only did I not go to the subreddit post as it dropped me to whatever the fuck the front page is, but it was pretty adamant that I use the app cuz fuck you for using a website I guess.

I browse maybe once a week for a few minutes, but I will never be going back now so thanks to whatever bean counter or engagement coordinator got me to finally quit going.

Storms tore through the middle of the country, recycling the communal tornado every so often and given certain friends bonus tornadoes. My town got one, but we haven't been able to get out and see what kind of damage it's wrought. We got stuck in high water and parents' car is damaged potentially beyond rrepair. But the house is intact and we have power, so I'll call that a win.

It's a thing I observe all the time on suckmed. Lemmy is not better. People post under articles clearly reacting to the headline or at best summary/highlighted part.

Why? The behaviour genuinely baffles me. I don't feel an urge to talk about stuff I don't care about, why do so many commentors seemingly want to make their opinion on something they don't care about known?

It always stands out really clearly to anyone who has read the article too, so people who do it don't end up looking clever.

Why are there a hundred trillion SUVs with less cabin space than a sedan. Why are all the sedans identical to each other. Why is a used car as expensive as leasing a new car. Why are leases so expensive

Engineers seem like a bunch of sociopathic antisocial nerds, and actually oftentimes are. Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, and your classmate that's really into right wing content and thinks they're smarter than everybody else are negative motivation

Lawyers, bankers, accountants, bizness peepol, look miserable all the time and the jobs/coworkers are known to be toxic af

Doctors pay 300k in tuition and get hazed in residency for years for no good reason other than to be exploited for cheap labour at the cost of their patients having to be taken care of by sleep deprived and overworked doctors

Coders at the most evil companies like Meta, OpenAI, Google, Tiktok, Amazon, Palantir are majority Asian (~60% according to some of these companies diversity reports, mostly east and south) and massively disproportionately immigrant/foreign from developing countries, probably representing ~30% (from my own observations). Disproportionately trans too but still a tiny proportion of the population

And contrary to popular belief, engineers at these companies have tons of autonomy. They're not just simply following orders. Leadership sets general strategy and high level goals but engineers are often times responsible for ideating the actual features to deliver. I've seen way more low level engineers and product managers come up with evil fucked up features than leadership has

The most evil CEOs and financiers are massively disproportionately (white) gay men, and even in executive positions at tech companies have a ton of (white) gay men

I spoke about how lately I've been having dreams where I'm a member by marriage of the Swedish or British royal families. I just woke from a dream where I was married to Lord John Grey, an aristocrat from the Outlander series. It was a lavender marriage as he's gay and I'm ace.

In this dream it as Christmas and we were planning to buy presents for his aristocratic friends and family. There were lots of old and middle aged women to buy for. I'd thought we were going to get them each a box of fancy chocolates or something, but they turned up and started demanding we buy them very expensive presents.

They stayed the night and one unpleasant old woman who clearly thought I wasn't good enough for John, liked the very expensive bed in her room and demanded that we buy her one just like it for Christmas. John agreed. I thought she was extremely spoilt, rude and entitled.

Why do I keep having these dreams?

I'm at the beginning of How Degrowth Will Save The World, and the introduction's epigraph is,
