Would you want to be Michael Jackson-level famous — not necessarily from music, but from anything: social media, entertainment, or whatever? Would you want to be as famous as him? Why or why not?

Yes I know the cliche saying of “every president is war criminal” blah blah blah. But last president atleast were attacked or provoked by recognized threat. Trump has -

  • Tried to coup the US government over election results
  • Sent ICE agents into cities to harass the public
  • Defended ICE killing civilians by labeling victims as “domestic terrorist”
  • Bombed Nigeria on Christmas 2025 (it’s unknown the casualty count), Nigeria did not attack us
  • Illegally invaded Venezuela and kidnapped their leader and his wife, Venezuela did not attack us
  • Is currently starving the country of Cuba with no food, electricity or aid, Cuba did not attack us
  • Is spreading false information about White Genocide in South Africa
  • Killed Iranian Generals in his first term after tearing up Obama’s Iran Peace Deal
  • Bombed a school of little girls in Iran
  • Started a war with Iran, killing their leader, Iran did not attack us
  • Wants to occupy and takeover Greenland, Greenland did not attack us or ask for this
  • Inplements unprofessional and nonsensical tariffs on the Global economy

And so much more. Why dosent social media, traditional media, reddit, lemmy, democrats, ANYBODY ever call this gu ya terrorist. No other president has caused this much global terror in the modern era.

My first TikTok reached a whopping 100k views, but now I only get 50 on average. Is that intentional? It sure feels like it.

Is there an instance on Lemmy which does not apply any censorship to the communities on this instance, apart from obvious like following the law etc?

Dear community,

I'm looking for a similar (calm) game like Portal 1/2 or Firewatch that I can play on macOS with a similar vibe. The last time I played a game is years ago, and I wish I had at least once a week a nice single-player game that I can play 1-2 hours. =)

I enjoyed Portal because I had to plan out what I'm doing before I act (without being pressured to act), the atmosphere of the game was legendary and I liked that little robot following me. Firewatch had a calm amazing story, there was no 'action' but sometimes that feeling that something could happen. It was a nice exploring game.

Any ideas?

Princess Diana came from an extremely wealthy family, but Camilla also comes from a very wealthy family too, so I don’t understand why the royals wanted him to marry Diana and not Camilla. I could understand if Camilla came from a middle-class family, but she didn’t.

How ‘real’ do you think influencer relationships are? Even when they have a kid, how real do you think it is?

It seems like a lot of european countries have started becoming more concerned with digital sovereignty and some have begun enforcing using open formats like ODF / ODS

I'm struggling to find support though. A lot of software seems to open ODS files but force the XLSX format on save.

I'd expect something like OnlyOffice to have support since it's used by the French government and the government of their German neighbours is enforcing ODS usage + there should be a reasonable library they could import to make it work without a large overhead

I think starting to understand how a girl behaves who she has a thing for you.

There was this girl at the office who is our team.

I was not observing a lot but she was siiting beside me most of the time at cafeteria when we eat. It just didn't resgister on my mind.

So the other day, I was eating and there no adjacent seats so she dediced to sit opposite to me. But before her, her friend came early and placed her plate in the opposite. This girl, later came and pushed her friend's plate awkwardly away and sat opposite of me.

Am I reading too much into this? Or is my assumption valid?

One thing I hate about guys that complain about Mary sues is that they never complain about “Gary Stus.” For example, Light Yagami was kind of a Gary Stu. He had an IQ of 215–230, he was handsome, the most popular kid in his school, and his family was upper middle class. Jace Wayland from Shadowhunters is an arrogant, brooding bad boy who’s a master martial artist, who women fawn over, and is basically the fantasy of what men and women think a cool bad boy is. Tony Stark is a multi-billionaire with multiple armored, superpowered suits that basically make him Superman, and Superman himself is basically a god.

Are these characters bad? No. I love all of them, but let’s be real here… they could be considered male Mary Sues, and these guys never bring that up.

Now, not every character or show has to be relatable. Peter Parker works because he’s an everyman; however, the opposite can also be true, and people like fantasy escapism. That’s why soap operas about wealthy people or sitcoms about financially stable families are popular, because it’s a form of escapism this goes for Mary Sues and Gary Stus too.

I can go to any country, with the caveat that my mom would accompany me for part of it. I don’t want to go someplace I’ve already been, so it can’t be Taiwan, Canada, France, Germany, Morocco, Japan, Mexico, Ireland, or Argentina. I’m from the US and don’t want to go to a state I’ve already been to either. I want somewhere that feels very different.

The reason that this is a hard decision is because my mom is up there in age and can’t swim. I would really like to beach and party at least some of the time, but I don’t want to do that with her because we’re not the type to drink and do drugs in front of each other. The idea is that it would be 2 weeks for me and 1 for her, so we would start off together and then I’d be let loose and she’d fly home. When she is there we would do shorter hikes, visit museums, shop, and do normal tourist things. When she is gone I want to party and swim, so I need a place that is rich in both culture and unzh unzh.

The other issue is that it has to be June, and some places we would both be really interested in like Thailand and Vietnam would be too hot for me. Or would they? Idk, that’s why I’m asking.

I would love to visit any country tbh but some would be less fun with my mom. Like in Kazakhstan I’d want to ride horses and sleep in yurts and it’ll just be different with her since she can’t do those things, so I will save that for solo travel. This also may be the last trip we take together so I want to make her happy. I bet the best option is Thailand in winter but June is when I won’t be employed.

My thoughts: Costa Rica–plenty to see and do with her, warm oceans for me after, many activities, but we only speak French, Chinese, Taiwanese, and English.

Cuba–same as above but could be difficult for US citizens?

Puerto Rico–I know it’s part of the US but I haven’t been and my only concern is the stability

Turkey–I was a history major with a focus on the Ottoman Empire so historical site would be fascinating to me, and I love cats, and there would be a lot of things I’d love to see while she’s there and plenty of beaches for me.

South Korea–her idea. I think if we go there not speaking Korean we might struggle to have a good time without a strong itinerary. I want to go to Korea with a person who speaks Korean and can show me more authentic things so I don’t just feel like I’m walking around looking at skyscrapers without a good itinerary. I’d also want to save up for some plastic surgery before going, lol.

New Zealand–only con is a long flight for a trip that will be on the short side for her if she’s only going for a week.

Scotland–I bet we’d both love it but it seems a bit quiet and more the kind of trip I’ve want to take with a lover.

Portugal, Croatia, etc…

To be clear I’m not trying to say that any of these countries would be bad to go to, just that they may not be ideal for a half-family half-solo trip. Other places I want to visit, like Iceland and Alaska, won’t offer the kind of swimming I want to do.

I’d also like to get a bit slutty on the back half. Like it’s actually really important to me that I get to make out with random strangers and do something stupid and stumble home

No, seriously. A lot of the time after I use one, it results in some kind of mess with varying degrees of subtlety. It's been mildly irritating for years and I'm starting to feel like I'm missing something obvious.

Are you supposed to aim toward the center? To one side? High? Low? Into the drain/water?

I've tried aiming near the side so that the stream hits the urinal quietly and has a low angle of deflection, thinking it'll minimize splash back. But sometimes it seems like there are tiny droplets in a radius around the stream and some flecks will get onto the outside of the urinal, which is no good.

I've tried aiming at the deepest part in the back of the urinal, hoping that the intense splashing from hitting it at close to a 90-degree angle will be counterbalanced by the greatest amount of surrounding urinal surface in the vicinity, but this is too optimistic and tends to deposit a fine mist on the floor between me and my target.

I've tried aiming downwards at the drain, or when it's the style of urinal with a standing water level, at the back half of the water where it's shallow. This is loudest and probably provokes silent judgment from anyone else unfortunate enough to be using the bathroom at the same time as me, but it doesn't seem to be especially good at minimizing mess and in the case of standing water, has a low chance of splashing an actually threatening amount of liquid back in my direction.

Perhaps it's just inevitable that this particular plumbing fixture comes with a little mess involved. In other areas of life we are fine with periodically cleaning in our Sisyphean struggles against the various avenues where dirt and grime accumulate. But I want to be a conscientious user of shared facilities, damn it. And there's only so many times a guy can discreetly wipe off his shoe with a paper towel before going insane.

Please help.
