Lmao it's you again, I could immediately tell. So now I see you're just a hypocrite GOS anti, because shilling for microG but then saying GOS isn't "truly deGoogled" in the same post is crazy lol.

Yeah, like originally I was like "hehe innuendo", and I know the Saja boys were evil demons, but after finishing the movie I was like damn, they didn't joke about "drinking every drop."

Literally the plot of KPOP Demon Hunters but if they were goth instead. And that shit totally would've worked since "Your Idol" topped charts for a week or so.

Like others said, any turn-based game. Currently ~~suffering~~ enjoying SMT III Nocturne, others I've played are Octopath, Fire Emblem, Pokemon (esp Mystery Dungeon), Atlus in general. Balatro sounds nice. Rhythm heaven is WarioWare + Music, and that's definitely doable one-handed, especially the Wii version. My mom said Fortune Street (Monopoly but Mario + Dragon Quest) lol.

Mobile games can be very doable, a cute one I remember is Candies n' Curses, a game where you swipe to direct the character around a haunted mansion and fight bosses. Easily can be played with one hand. If you can tolerate gachas, Cookie Run Kingdom can be put on auto so you don't have to tap much, I just like the story and characters. I think Geometry dash can be doable on low levels with one hand?

Find your inner weeabo and play some Japanese visual novels. Or if you're a normal person then Ace Attorney would be a fantastic choice, and is a long-ass series. Prepare for courtroom bullshit and jokes.

I get that getting all the games as they released was hard, because the series is on so many platforms. But I really don't get the "KH is hard to understand" argument today, because you can easily find hundreds of letsplays for every game, cutscenes complications, play/watch every game on the PS4 remix disk, and even watch a fandub of the mobile games (Dark Road is a WIP) if you don't like the KHUX Back Cover recap.

So like, what's so hard? If you skip games and only read a wiki (the worst possible way to consume any sort of media, mind you), of course you're not gonna know the story and characters, and of course it'll sound confusing.

Sounds funny, but maybe donate the food instead to your local shelter or food bank in these hard times? :)

I mean, that's the reality of using an Android phone. 95% of apps are built to use play services in some way, and while most of that can be ignored, apps using push notifs are almost always going to be play instead of unified push. Make the choice of either living with no push notifs, or having push notifs.

You can use GrapheneOS without push notifs, it's just inconvenient, and the average person wants convenience. This isn't a Graphene problem, it's a big tech influencing Android problem. The original comment makes it seem like Graphene is the issue, but other ROMs are going to encounter that same issue anyway (as I said, Android problem). So therefore I didn't lie, asshole.

Maybe you can use microG to get around notif issues, but that does require logging in. Use a Linux phone at that rate if you're not gonna use push notifs and don't need Android.

[–] Dreaming_Novaling@lemmy.zip 2 points 5 months ago (3 children)

That's a lie, you can totally avoid Play Services if you truly want to with GrapheneOS, as it literally isn't installed by default. If you only use Fdroid apps and have no need for push notifs, then you can truly use GOS with no Google.

But the average person probably needs those things mentioned, so you can download a sandboxed version of Play Store and Services instead.

Man, steamed shrimp dumplings taste fire, so I could see just steaming shrimp and throwing soy sauce or siracha on it or smth.

Man, sometimes I'm just blessed by the internet

Some are very easy to play without spending any sort of money, and there's several that have pity systems in which you're guaranteed to get what you're pulling for, so at least they're slightly better than gambling. But yes, I won't deny they're predatory, but I've managed to make my gacha journey without spending a penny across the 20+ gacha games I've played and dropped for a little over a decade now.

Not all of them have great stories, especially the older games which focused on collecting rather than story content, but within the past few years we've gotten great ones that have long arcs that are actually interesting, especially if the game has side lore that you can read about.

I get that a gacha isn't going to be as good as the average game, but when you've only got a few mins to play something and you're out and about, they're nice.

God. The Genshin subreddit literally hated male characters for simply existing so much that official birthday art would get taken down/reported by the users/mods. I stuck with the GenshinGays and Genshin_Sapphic subreddits because at least I didn't have to see Mona's titties and Klee lolibait every 5 posts.

But for real, anime and game subreddits are just cancer (well, honestly they're not perfect on Lemmy either...) and it's impossible to find one that doesn't dissolve into gooning and homophobia. Well, maybe besides Jojo.

Discover Hidden Gems: Open-Source Software You Should Know About

We all love open-source software, but there are so many amazing projects out there that often go unnoticed. Let's change that! Share your favorite open-source software that you think more people should know about. Here’s how you can contribute:

  1. Single Option Per Comment: Mention one open-source software per comment to be able to easily find the most popular software.
  2. No Duplicates: Avoid duplicating software that has already been mentioned to ensure a wide variety of options.
  3. Upvote What You Love: If you see a software that you also appreciate, upvote it to help others discover it more easily.

Check out last year's post for more inspiration: Last Year's Post

Let's create a comprehensive list of open-source software that everyone should know about!

I advise you to post any recommendations to the original post, I was just sharing it here so others can find it! I also wanna see those recs myself so that's the motive for posting this 😅

Hello, I've been saying it to myself for a year now, but I'm on summer break rn and I really need to do something with my life. Here's some of the software I plan to host. Goal is to not spend more than $150-200, I do have some gift cards though.

Absolutely Will Run:

Nextcloud & Immich - I want to replace Google and OneDrive

Might do in the near future:

Jellyfin - my mom and I usually just bootleg by using Kodi on our FireTV, so not a major need rn, but might be nice for future purposes.

piHole - better overall ad blocking, so I don't have to use nextDNS on all my devices, and maybe help my mom out.

VPN - I currently pay for Proton, and we use it on the FireTV, the TV app sucks cause it doesn't have killswitch (PC and mobile have Killswitch). I have several devices and profiles that I use, so I was thinking maybe just an overall VPN might be nice

Seeding - I think it would be nice to give back to the community, since I torrent every now and then.

OS Plan: I plan to use Proxmox as I have a little bit of experience using it, and others seem to like it a lot for managing multiple software.

I know I don't need to go full power mode rn, so I wanna stick with something low end that I could maybe upgrade in the future. Should I just buy a used laptop/PC, or get like an Optiplex or ThinkServer? I don't wanna rack up my parent's electric bill. I already got some hard drives a year ago, so but is using an external drive bad?

I know to use the Ethernet ports so my signal isn't shit, but I gotta work out the best spot I can put my server. I do know an okay amount of networking knowledge, and I'm a cyber student anyway so this is like a fun yet educational personal project for me.

When it comes to external access and security of these services, should I stick with Tailscale? Some people have concerns over the proprietary bits and are using headscale instead I guess.

Any guidance is much appreciated!

EDIT: Thank you all so much for the guidance! I've decided to repurpose an old Mac laptop that has a broken screen and use that as the proxmox base (might put better RAM in it if I can) and then start with that. I might get a Pi or thin client in the future for more purposes. I will certainly come back to post when my nextcloud is running!

So I've been getting more into the Fediverse, as I already had a Mastodon account for a bit. But I've joined Lemmy (love it btw, used to login to Reddit before API death ⚰️🕊️) and am thinking of joining Misskey since there's such a huge Japanese speaking community there.

But is it a good idea, and has anyone here joined? I can read decently, I'm playing Ace Attorney 5 in Japanese (finished the 1st case), I'm doing a Wanikani beginner bookclub that seems right around my level, and I'm almost done with Genki 2 (Quartet books already ordered). So I feel like this is prime time for doing more immersing and interacting with Japanese content.

Which server did you join, main, or a more niche one? Did you focus purely on the theme/content of the server?

I like games, anime, and fanart, and I'm okay with some NSFW, but I'm a little afraid of the misskey servers cause the big art ones are full of hentai/NSFW (Pawoo...). I won't go on a crusade if I see some loli art, but I don't want it shoved in my face every 3 posts.

I'm currently thinking of joining the Splatoon themed server, いかすきー.
