I think about this all the time. Tech company spends $19 billion more in ai, etc. Meanwhile, my local school system is firing teachers over a $500,000 shortfall.

Someone else could explain better than me I'm sure but, it's a Linux distro that is gaming focused. It comes pre-loaded with steam and video card drivers so that someone has a decent chance that their games will just "work".

I'm one. I set up a Windows/bazzite dual boot situation and I've never booted windows since.

I run Linux on main. Started 2 months ago because it represents the kind of world I want to live in. I've stuck with it despite the fact that it feels like I'm computing on hard mode at times.

This is exactly what is happening to me. The wifi turns off and the only way to fix it is a pull-the-plug power cycle.

Thanks for the advice but I'm pretty bitter about how it all went down. I'm gonna look elsewhere for network hardware.

I just got screwed over when my UDR failed after 2.5 years and they refuse to do anything about it because it is just out of warranty. Their tech support admitted it was a hardware failure but they are refusing to replace it.

I'd be really wary about investing in their hardware. I never had something break on me so soon.

Best of luck out there.

Great. Then they can do fuck all.

Y'all rock! Thanks for all your hard work this year!

I'm using bazzite because I heard it is gaming focused. It runs fine but I keep running into little things. For instance, I couldn't get a game that was supposedly steam deck verified to run. I eventually got it working. Just had to tinker for a few hours.

As someone who grew up using windows, is there a series of tutorials or videos y'all recommend to learn Linux? I find myself running into issues, trying to find solutions online, and not even understanding the instructions. I'm sure most of this comes from not knowing bash (which I've started to learn using https://labex.io/linuxjourney).

Background: I'm a very competent windows user. I've built my own PC, etc. I mostly use it for gaming and Internet now but want to start self hosting some things. Oh, and I'm running bazzite.

Anyway, just trying to get out from Microsoft's thumb.

Cheers.

Edit: thanks for the replies everyone. I haven't had a chance to read through them all yet; the whole family is suddenly sick.

The traffic system would be amazing. This is what is stopping me from using this.

Would Lemmy be able to resist this kind of influence better than Reddit? It feels like Lemmy server admins/owners would be even more susceptible to legal threats. Unless maybe they are in a different country.
