Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. πŸ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. πŸ“½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. πŸ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      βœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. πŸ“¬ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 πŸ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 πŸ–) will be removed.
  7. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

Second guy should have longer thoughts. His legs are getting wet.

And that's why my inner monologue is an endless stream of consciousness

Mine should honestly cover enough area around me that I don't ever see rain.

I've heard some people wish they had a soundtrack. I have to admit, it's pretty nice. I've talked to my wife, she (a better musician than me) has one too (hers isn't constant tho, she just is always humming music (silently or not) in her head which is the way she conceptualizes it. Me, the music just happens unless I intentionally take over, which is very nice for those songs with the lyrics i don't know). I imagine folk with schizophrenia who think they have music coming out of their teeth or fillings, the difference between them and us is that somehow they misidentified the source of their inner music (and if that spiraled out of something they were taught, well there is no greater sin than teaching someone their inner voices aren't theirs and I don't believe in sin). I am of course the world's leading expert on schizophreniology, you can and must believe every word I pull out of my ass.

Oooh, I love comics that play with comic logic.

My library had a book entirely about exploring comic creation through the medium of a comic book. Things like finding a wall too long to go around, and noting that the reader only knows this because of the dialogue highlighting it, since the wall can only be as big as the panel. It strikes me as similar.

I wish I did, but no sorry

"Ontological metalepsis", maybe with some "reification"?

Metalepsis A crossing between narrative levels. Here, a non-physical comic convention becomes physically active inside the story.

Ontological metalepsis A stronger, more precise form: something from one "reality level" enters another. The speech bubble moves from the reader-facing graphic layer into the character’s physical world.

Reification Treating something abstract, symbolic, or conventional as if it were a concrete object. The speech bubble is "reified" because it becomes a usable physical thing.

I love this comic.

Up for a little ultraviolence?

[–] Damaskox@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Haha.

Sounds fun, in DooM!

Technology is better than magic.

[–] Jolteon@lemmy.zip 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I'd argue the opposite, since if we call something magic, it means that we're only in the early stages of discovery. That's always exciting.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I would like to respectfully disagree. We use the word Magic in advertising for reasons I'm not an advertiser don't ask me. Also for sex reasons ask Irving's Johnson (one could argue all those stages of discovery are exciting but only maybe 97.2843% with a line over the two and the three idk how to do that onna phone are fun exciting but I'm pretty sure he's explored most of the early stages of everything there is to explore). Also I'm pretty sure we have thoroughly explored what makes the brownies magic. Although it could use another trip.

[–] Jolteon@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 days ago

I was referring to the specific definition used in the magic/technology divide: something that exerts supernatural power over natural forces.

[–] Axolotl_cpp@feddit.it 2 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (2 children)

Technology that we don't know how works is magic, give a smartphone to a guy from 1890

[–] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 2 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Even today. To most of us Its a rectangle of mystery and doom and sometimes cats.

Shit give it to a guy from 1980. Just 15 years ago I didn't know how to work a touchscreen phone despite having worked on touchscreens in retail. I just didn't know general navigation (it took me fifteen seconds to figure it out) but I also have the confidence and technical understanding to know how to break and unbreak shit. Documenting how it was before you broke it/backing it up is step one.

[–] OpenStars@piefed.social 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Or perhaps... technology is magic?

[–] UndergroundParking@lemmy.cafe 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Indistinguishably so 🀷🏻

[–] MeowerMisfit817@lemmy.world -5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I don't think so
