I initially read the typo as “promiscuous metals” and worried we finally created android sex bots

Defending data centers is not a concept the crowds here is going to like, but a realistic perspective of the meme might be helpful. This aint going to fly... It was funny for Flock cameras because they are just outside in the wild. The whole point of data centers is that the infrastructure inside can share services, security being one of them, and they take it way too seriously. They are 21st century fortresses, physical security is part of their curb appeal. Rock up to Amazon and friends and see how long it takes for the fuzz to show up.

Plus, the copper near there is likely highly energized, you want to see an arc flash? I DONT! You will get electeocuted and its going to hurt the whole time your dieing.

Crackheads are a valueble resource, dont send them off after white whales. /s

I noticed that too. But it was the gif I found so it was the one I used.

You say "neat but you're not getting in" nicely.

I'd just say "neat. But you're not getting in"

Yeah I work at one of those evil data centers (I hate it but its the only job that pays decently-ish and the work itself is just brain-dead logistics shit, putting hard drives into boxes and shit) and yeah, no one unauthorized is getting in. Unless you're willing to roll up in literal tanks and storm a fortress, its not happening.

This video is accurate: https://youtu.be/kd33UVZhnAA

Since that video has been released, they have only gotten more advanced and more secure.

I've been telling them about the GPUs and how they just pull out. And how you can get a 40L-50L hiking backpack and put $20k of them in it.

Precocious metals.

[–] Ontimp@feddit.org 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

...which are mostly precious because the people buying them need them to build more data centers.

[–] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

The fourth most valuable metal on Earth is copper jacketed lead. No one's using that to make data centers.

[–] Ontimp@feddit.org 1 points 2 weeks ago

...which means you also won't find it by looting a data center.

By definition, a data center is made out of the kind of materials you'd need to make a data center.^^

lol, BRILLIANT!

I know a local nightclub that could’ve been saved with better timing
