Rules: (Click to expand)

1. Be Civil.

Users are expected to be civil and inclusive towards one another at all times. Remember the person on the other side of the screen. Hate speech, racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia and other inflammatory language is prohibited.

2. Keep content related to wrestling.

Any content posted should at least be related to pro wrestling somehow.

3. Spoilers.

Do not spoil events for people. If an event is going on, please keep discussion contained to the/a discussion thread for 24h after the event. Do not post spoilers in titles during this period. Use the spoiler function when you need to, it's there for a reason. Should your post involve a url to a spoiler (Twitter, YouTube video, etc) please mark the thread as NSFW as well so thumbnails are blurred or just link the content in the body of the post.

4. Vague/Editorialized Title.

Please keep the titles of any articles you post clear, understandable, and indicative of what the article states within. It's ok to alter the title if the original is clickbait and confusing, or contains a spoiler like a debut that just occurred that day, but do not add your own thoughts to it.

5. Sexualized Content/'Plot'.

Please do not post any pornographic, 'creep shot', or similar adult-related material to the community (regardless of connection to wrestling). Wrestling content that involves sexualized content (in storylines/matches/promos) is fine, as well as photo's wrestlers post to their own social medias. Butt-shots you take with your cell phone at a house show aren't.

6. Banned Source(s)/Websites.

In case you missed it, we're participating in Lemmyvision 3. TL:DR It's like Eurovision, only on Lemmy. For the past three days we've been taking nominations for songs to represent us in the competition, and now it's time to vote on which song it will be. Each song has a link to it on YouTube Music in case you want to listen to each before voting. I also made a playlist of the songs if you want to listen to all of them.

To vote just upvote the song you want to represent us. I originally said voting would be open until Saturday 9pm EDT, but it looks like they want songs submitted before the 3rd, so the new voting deadline is Friday 9pm EDT. This will also give us some wiggle room to figure out what to do if there's a tie.

Krule's statement:

“Two weeks ago, I prepared a statement to address this situation. Once I had handled some business that needed to be addressed before releasing, I read what I had written. In doing so I felt how disingenuous my original written statement was. Thus, I decided to stop, reassess, and be more open to the public. I am speaking to all of you now not as a character, but as myself.

“During the event, there was an altercation with a fan, whom I had had several incidents with throughout the night, including physically shoving myself during my entrance and another fan who was trying to purchase merchandise after the show. In this moment, I reacted and threw a punch. During that incident, I sustained an injury to my side that once I had returned to the locker room was discovered by staff at Berwyn. I do not know how this injury occurred, only that it occurred during the incident. Staff and wrestlers helped bandage me and tend to the wound. I left and was taken to take a shower and driven to the airport, as I had an early flight the next morning for another booking. I awoke in the airport to calls from my family in tears, “Did you get stabbed?” I had no idea what was happening, then I saw that story had been put out on social media. To be absolutely clear, I never wanted nor asked that this story be represented as fact nor made public. I was contacted by law enforcement, and I fully cooperated with that process. I was asked if I wanted to pursue an investigation I declined. I told the detective I did not believe I was stabbed, but I had probably fallen on something during the altercation.

“I regret not addressing this immediately and allowing misinformation and assumptions to circulate without clarification. I apologize for not negating the claim to the public. I pride myself in blurring the lines of reality, but I understand this was not one those times.

“Now comes the part of all of this I have struggled with most, throwing a punch. I have been angry, remorseful, and every emotion in-between. However, it finally hit me like a brick wall, I was in the wrong. Regardless of the situation and the things that occurred, it was my job to be a professional. In hindsight, many decisions made differently could have changed the situation’s outcome. I could have addressed the situation to management when I knew he was a problem. I could have made the decision not to go sell merch after the show to avoid potential conflict. I could have been a professional and I failed. Thus, I accept full responsibility for everything that occurred. I failed as professional. I have always taken pride in being professional and being a team player with every person I have worked for in my career. I failed and made a bad decision.

“To the wrestlers, fans, and promotions that have been affected by the aftermath of the situation and my bad decision, no words can change what has been done but I do apologize. I have spent more time over these last few weeks hurting emotionally because I hurt each and every one of you. I am sorry. Majority of you don’t know me, the person, only as what I portray as a character, but this incident is not a reflection of who I am. I care about professional wrestling more than I’ve shown through this situation. I will reflect that going forward.”

This thread will be used to keep track of songs people nominate to represent SquaredCircle in Lemmyvision 3. Here's a link to the thread where it was first discussed and you can check out !lemmyvision@jlai.lu for more info.

To nominate a song leave a comment in this thread with the song's artist and title. If you could also provide a link to the song so I don't have to search them all up when I go to make the voting thread that would be appreciated.

Nominations will be open from now until Tuesday night at 9pm EDT. After that I'll unpin this thread and pin the thread for voting. For that thread I'll just leave comments for each nominated song with links and we'll use upvotes to do the voting. That thread will be up until Saturday night at 9pm EDT. After that I'll submit the winner to Lemmyvision. I'll also post a link for voting for Lemmyvision once that is up on the 4th.

Song submission:

  • Each Lemmy community is responsible for their own organization.
  • Only one (1) song per language per community is to be sent.
  • If the song contains vocals then it must be in (one of) the official language(s) of your choice, or a regional language of your choice.
  • Songs must have been released after January 1st, 2025.
  • Songs must not be international hits[1].
  • Submit your songs in their own thread in this community
  • Verification will just require a link to the discussion thread created within your community, to ensure it’s a community (not a single person’s) decision.

[1] this is to prevent drama that happened in the past on Reddit, where Germany sent a Rammstein song and obviously won. It’s up to my own appreciation of what international hit means, because it’s hard to measure (metrics on different streaming platforms aren’t the same), but I’m pretty lenient, just ask me if you’re not sure, better to discuss than argue

Questions are being asked about the state of the Berwyn Eagles Club after a report that its entertainment license has not been revoked.

This weekend marks the final wrestling events at the venue in Berwyn as AAW hosts ‘Crash & Destroy’ tonight, followed by a lucha event on Saturday.

The club hosted the Ruthless Pro Wrestling show on March 28, which ended with an incident involving wrestler Krule and a fan. Video emerged of the fan being attacked by wrestlers and attendees and escorted out of the building. The next day, it was stated that two wrestlers claimed that the fan had stabbed Krule, although others disputed that in attendance, and the Berwyn Police Department concluded that no stabbing occurred.

The club informed promoters it would no longer host wrestling events, forcing Game Changer Wrestling to find a new location for a June 20 event, and promoter Brett Lauderdale stated he had additional events planned for Berwyn.

A GoFundMe was launched with the blessing of Chuck Marose Sr., who runs the Berwyn Eagles Club as a trustee and its secretary. The campaign claimed the venue “lost its license and is no longer allowed to host wrestling shows” and led to event cancellations and left the club “without its primary source of income”.

As noted in our April 11 story by Neal Flanagan: “It is not yet clear from public information which specific license the fundraiser is referring to. However, Berwyn’s code requires a local license for paid amusements and entertainment, a category that expressly includes professional wrestling, and the city’s liquor code has separate entertainment-and-amusement classifications for establishments serving alcohol”.

The Chicago Sun Times reported on Friday, “Exactly why the club is ceasing all wrestling events remains unclear. Berwyn’s city attorney and chief of police confirmed with a reporter that the venue’s entertainment license — necessary for hosting wrestling shows — has not been revoked as a result of the events on March 28. Berwyn Chief of police Michael Fellows said that the Berwyn Eagles Club pays for one officer during wrestling events. After the brawl, the department recommended increasing the total number of on-site officers to four”.

Chuck Marose Sr. declined an interview with the Chicago Sun-Times, but POST Wrestling has reached out to Jon Craft, who launched the GoFundMe.

On April 9, Brandon Thurston, on behalf of POST Wrestling, spoke by phone with a person at the Berwyn Eagles Club who identified himself as Paul McFeely and as an officer of the club. McFeely attributed the end of wrestling at the venue to concerns raised by the police and the town. When asked how the police and town have the authority to prevent the club from holding wrestling events, McFeely brought up the venue’s liquor license. He did not say the club had lost its liquor license but indicated that incidents like the one involving Krule and the intoxicated fan could jeopardize it. Before ending the call, McFeely asked for Thurston’s name and asked for its spelling, sounding as if McFeely was writing the name down. When we called back roughly an hour later to ask further questions, seemingly the same person, who identified himself as McFeely, claimed to have no memory of the earlier conversation and quickly ended the call.

Because McFeely effectively denied his earlier statements to us, we did not include these details in our April 9 written report about the Eagles Club. We’ve decided to include these details now because the Sun-Times’ confirmation that the entertainment license was not revoked is consistent with McFeely’s account that no formal action had been taken but that the club’s liquor license was at risk. His denial of the conversation and Marose’s unwillingness to speak with the Sun-Times to fully explain the situation fit a pattern of unclear and conflicting information surrounding wrestling at the venue.

Phone calls placed today, on Friday, to the club went to voicemail. We left a voice message, which was not immediately returned.

The Chicago Sun Times spoke with a fan in attendance at the Ruthless Pro Wrestling show and stated that the “fan” who approached Krule after the show was a “known problem” in the local wrestling scene and cited an instance when the person was “obviously inebriated” and yelled a homophobic slur at a queer wrestler.

The Berwyn Eagles Club has hosted pro wrestling shows for over two decades and was the long-time home venue for AAW and SHIMMER.

I stumbled across !lemmyvision@jlai.lu and thought we might want to submit a song. The pinned thread over there explains everything, but it's pretty much Eurovision, only on Lemmy. The important info is:

  • From right now and until May 3rd, discuss with your Lemmy instance or community about which song to send to the contest.
  • Submit the song in this community by making a new thread.
  • On May 4th, voting will begin. You will rank your favourite songs in a form. Any song not submitted by this date will not be featured.
  • On May 11th, results of everyone’s favourite songs will be published.
  • You can use !lemmyvision@jlai.lu for any question, this will be the community for updates and results, make sure to subscribe if you’d like to stay in the loop.

Voting:

  • Voting will be done through a form created on tally.so.
  • I will set up the form near the end of the month, and share it in a new announcement post when the time has come.
  • If you’re worried about privacy, there will be no questions about personal data, and last year I deleted the form and its results a week after the event was done.

I'm thinking we use this thread for discussion and have another thread for voting, but I'm open to suggestions. Should we do it? Should the song be a wrestler's theme? Can anyone think of a song that could represent us that isn't a wrestler's theme?

Ric Flair claims he was banned from WrestleMania 42 due to an incident from before WrestleMania 41.

Speaking to Ariel Helwani, Flair gave his side of what happened and why he wasn’t at WrestleMania 42.

“I didn’t get invited to WrestleMania this year. I threatened to beat up Tiffany Stratton’s [boyfriend Ludwig Kaiser] last year and I wasn’t allowed to go. A 24-year-old kid, threatened, by a 76-old-man, and I can’t go to WrestleMania. Are you kidding me? That English kid. He’s going to go as far in wrestling as a gnat. He’ll be a fly on the wall in a year,” he said.

Kaiser is 35 years old. He was dating Tiffany Stratton last year during her angle with Charlotte Flair, where Tiffany mentioned Charlotte’s divorces, and Charlotte responded that Kaiser was in her DMs.

“They had that thing where Tiffany made smart remarks about Ashley’s divorces, which we both know she’s not smart enough to have written, somebody gave her the script. He implied that he wouldn’t ‘bum one’ off Ashley. Okay, I need your number, and I got it, because I can get anyone’s number that I want any minute of any day. I called him and said, ‘When I see you, I’m going to beat the shit out of you.’ He went like a little bitch, told Hunter, and I wasn’t allowed to go. He’s going to really go far in the business. A 76-year-old tells a 24-year-old kid that he’s going to kick his ass and where is he now? Is he even on the roster? Little punk,” he said.

Kaiser is portraying El Grande Americano II in AAA.

Charlotte and Tiffany wrestled at WrestleMania 41, with Tiffany scoring the victory.

This past Thursday 4/16, PWInsiderElite.com noted, "There's already been some concerns among talent about the company hotel this year. Last night, there was no additional security beyond the hotel itself and since the hotel is part of a major casino, there was no real ability to restrict the flow of fans. We are told there were tons of fans in the lobby and camped out by the elevators who mobbed everyone they saw, even referees, trying to get photos and autographs. The hope among the talents we heard from is that there will be some additional measures taken tonight to assist them when they are coming in and out."

At Bloodsport XV, Josh Barnett announced that the Bloodsport concept would stop for the foreseeable future. Barnett said he wouldn’t bury it for good, but that it’s done for now.

Bloodsport started in 2018 by Matt Riddle, but Barnett took over the event in 2019 after Riddle signed with WWE. Bloodsport has become a WrestleMania weekend staple with AEW, NJPW and WWE talent competing at the event over the years.

Speaking to Ariel Helwani, Barnett explained his decision.

“I wasn’t trying to make a big deal out of it, and I didn’t want it to come off as a gimmick or for people to think, ‘They’re just doing this for the purpose of drumming up interest’ or that it was insincere. There was a lot of conflicting feelings in my own heart about whether this was going to be the case or not. When it’s all said and done, I feel like I absolutely made the right choice here.

“It wasn’t necessarily a bad thing or a tragedy or major overarching bad issue, but for me, Bloodsport had an evolution of where it was trying to get to. That was not going to be a traditional wrestling path, especially because it’s not really made for the indie wrestling in a way that a lot of indie wrestling is done. You’re not doing shows with frequency; it’s not made for that. We don’t have the talent to keep up with it because you can’t book just anybody on this show. For me, that evolution was everything I was building on with that concept was to get it to that point where I felt like it could be put together in the best format in the best way possible to give it the ability to flourish at it’s best. We’re not there. We’re not close. For me, it was better to end it now than to keep going on and quite possibly diminish what the product is or run it down before we had a chance to get to where I feel like it would have been at it’s best.”

Asked when he came to the decision, he said it was something he thought long and hard about.

“I thought very deeply and heavily about this. I was trying to bring on corporate sponsors or sponsors in general to support the show, and bring in other outside elements to build towards what the ultimate example is, and we just weren’t able to do it. That’s not to say there isn’t any possibility of doing that, but I had a timeline and we didn’t meet those goals. It’s closed unless things can be done to get us where we need to go,” he said.

Asked what things he needed, he replied, “We need more capital, we’d need our own office, we’d need more employees. We’d need a lot of things. The way that this show can best flourish is not the indie wrestling way. We’re not trying to be AEW, WWE, New Japan. We don’t have that kind of money and aren’t going to run at that capacity. Just like we’re not like anybody else in pro wrestling, we can’t take the same approach as other facets of pro wrestling. It’s quite possible we can put together what is needed to fully envision what I see Bloodsport as being, but it’s going to take a lot. It’s a lot more than most indie shows, a lot less than major (promotions), but it’s going to need aspects of both.

“Certain things I want to do are pay wrestlers better, have bonus incentive structures for certain things as far as numbers, and also be able to get multiple match deals with people that we can honor so we can make storylines and create more compelling aspects to this.”

Barnett said he would not pass the “Bloodsport” name to someone else.

Rhea Ripley recently revealed she was dealing with an eating disorder after “fans” online commented on her body and weight.

For better and worse, Ripley is one of the most discussed superstars online with “fans” weighing in positively and negatively on everything from her on-screen persona to her looks to who they believe she is as a person.

Speaking to Danielle Fishel and Will Friedle on Pod Meets World, Ripley was asked how she balances online commentary with her own mental health.

“It goes through waves where it’s really difficult and then sometimes really easy. This past year has been really difficult because I find that if my circle at home isn’t at peace, then that’s when I really struggle. That’s why I try to surround myself with people that I know are there for me and care for me. That’s my strong point. My husband [Buddy Matthews] is my strong point. My dogs are my strong point. My friend Tommy, who is always at our house every day, he’s my strong point. We work out together and it’s a positive environment. It’s really hard going onto Twitter. I need to delete that. It’s hard going on and trying to make it a work environment, but then, because it is a work environment, I get all these things coming up on my For You page. As soon as I click on the app, it’s negative towards me. I can’t even escape it or doomscroll like a normal human without seeing things about me, about my body, about my booking, about me as a human, even though they don’t know who the hell I am. It does get really tiring, but that’s also why I like to share what I’m going through.

“I tried to keep the whole eating disorder quiet for a while because I’m still figuring it out. I try to be as vocal with my struggles as possible because if it’s going to help someone, then why not talk about it? I needed that when I was going through stuff as a kid. If I knew my idols were going through these struggles and they are powering through and being amazing, and I look up to them and think they are strong and larger than life, then I can get through it too. That’s why I’m vocal about what I’m going through. With this whole eating situation, it definitely stems from stress and not being in control. That’s my biggest thing. I’m a very in control person. I like being in control of a lot of things. When I can’t control work and my schedule, and at the time, my home life with one of my now ex-friends just terrorizing my life. Going to Australia and not being able to control how the crowd responds to my peers and pressuring them 24/7 and getting thrown into all this media for that, it was a lot all at once, and it kind of broke me for a little bit, but it wasn’t seen by everyone yet. Now, it’s being seen by everyone. I saw so many things. ‘She had to lose weight because of her back pain.’ ‘She’s off the roids.’ We get tested. I’m not on anything.”

Elsewhere during the interview, Ripley commented on using real issues in a feud, and where the line is. You can find her full comments here.

Ripley will challenge Jade Cargill for the WWE Women’s Title at WrestleMania 42.

Nick Offerman has come to the defense of professional wrestling after training for his new Apple TV series, saying it is “not remotely like fake” and calling the way performers protect each other in the ring “really beautiful.”

In a clip shared by @TVMoments on Instagram, Offerman spoke about what he learned while preparing for his role as a retired pro wrestler in Margo’s Got Money Troubles.

“Most importantly, what I learned is it’s not remotely like fake. It’s incredibly athletic and really dangerous and really violent, but with all credit to them, they’re taking care of each other. They’re really hitting each other, but just so that they can do it again tomorrow and they can stay friends.”

Offerman said he was struck by how wrestlers communicate in the ring, explaining that matches are not fully choreographed move-for-move the way most outsiders assume.

“They have a shared vocabulary so they can say, ‘punch me twice and throw me over the ropes and then I’ll come back around.’ And so it’s not planned and rehearsed, they just are good enough to know, okay, and they do that and they’re able to pull it off.”

He said the biggest revelation for him was learning who is actually responsible for safety during a match.

“The most beautiful thing I learned was that usually the person taking the punch or being punished, they’re the ones secretly keeping everyone safe. Even while they’re like, ‘I’m gonna rip your head off,’ and they are really testing the limits of the human body, they’re also making sure that they take care of each other. It’s really beautiful.”

Offerman was trained by Chavo Guerrero for the role and did all of his own wrestling at age 54. He plays Jinx, a former pro wrestler recovering from addiction who re-enters his daughter’s life after getting out of rehab. His daughter Margo, played by Elle Fanning, eventually starts an OnlyFans account using lessons learned from her father’s pro wrestling career to build an audience.

The series also stars Michelle Pfeiffer as Margo’s mother and Nicole Kidman in a supporting role. It is written by David E. Kelley and based on the novel by Rufi Thorpe, who is a well-known wrestling fan and turned Offerman on to Bret Hart’s and Mick Foley’s memoirs during production.

Margo’s Got Money Troubles is an eight-episode series now streaming on Apple TV.
