Last week, we announced the Return of the Ancients, our next major Content Update for Path of Exile 2. In this news post, we're answering the most frequently asked questions from our community regarding the upcoming update.

When does the Return of the Ancients launch on all platforms?

Return of the Ancients will launch at 1PM May 29 PDT on all supported platforms, including the standalone PC client, Steam and Epic Games Store clients as well as Xbox Series and PlayStation 5.

Will there be an economy reset?

Your existing characters will still be available and playable in the Standard Early Access leagues. However, the new Runes of Aldur league starts with a fresh economy, along with new content and features, so it's strongly recommended to play there.

If you choose to continue with an older character, keep in mind that balance changes may affect your build. You might need to respec your passive points, and some mechanics or interactions may no longer work the same way as before.

How do I start playing in a new league?

When creating a character, select the Runes of Aldur banner.

Is there a special in-game mechanic that is available only in the Runes of Aldur league and not in the core game?

Yes, the Runes of Aldur league includes its own exclusive mechanics, content, rewards, and bosses that aren't available in the core game. Once the league ends, we'll evaluate these features and decide which ones, if any, will be added to the core game.

Are there challenges in the Runes of Aldur league?

Yes. In the Runes of Aldur League we're introducing challenges to Path of Exile 2. By completing 8 challenges in the league, you will be able to earn pieces of an exclusive Knight of Aldur Armour Set.

Do I need to create a new character and start the game from the beginning?

Yes, if you want to play the Runes of Aldur League. However, you can continue playing your existing characters in the Early Access league if you wish.

With Atlas being massively changed, what will happen to my Atlas progress in the Standard Early Access League? How do I start the new endgame questlines?

In the Standard League, your existing Atlas, its progress, and Atlas Passive Tree will be reset, and you will start exploring the new endgame and all new storylines from the beginning.

Is Fate of the Vaal going core?

Yes, the Temple of Atziri and its mechanics will become part of Path of Exile 2's core game in Return of the Ancients. We'll share more details soon.

What happens to my stash tabs if I start in a new Runes of Aldur league?

Any stash tabs you have purchased will be available to use in the Runes of Aldur leagues. Since a new league is a fresh economy, your stash in the new league will not contain any items from your stash in other leagues. All the items will be in Remove Only stash tabs in the Standard leagues.

Will you have official builds in the Build Guide?

No, we highly recommend players develop their own guides.

Will there be updates to the game post 0.5.0 launch?

Alongside fixes and improvements to the endgame and the Runes of the Aldur league, we have a lot of things to polish throughout the game and balance to improve, so after 0.5.0 launch we will be focused on that.

When will the Fragment Tab be available in the store?

Fragment Tab will be available for purchase in the Path of Exile 2 shop once Return of the Ancients releases on May 29th. If you already own a Fragment Tab on your account (purchased in Path of Exile 1), you will be able to use it in Path of Exile 2, just like other types of stash tabs.

Is this a paid expansion?

No. If you're an existing Path of Exile 2 player, all you have to do is to download the content update.

Will there be a predownload?

Yes, we will make the torrent file for the standalone PC client available for predownloading the day before the launch. Console players will also be able to download the patch prior to launch. Please note that only players with access to Path of Exile 2 will be able to predownload the patch.

Yes! In the coming weeks, we're planning to release some cool videos showcasing features in Return of the Ancients. As usual, we'll also reveal new Twitch Drops, post about Item Filter changes, and cover everything you need to know about the launch.

• Added support for upcoming race events.
• Fixed a bug where some bosses would fail to emerge if the players had a stolen Proximal Intangibility modifier.
• Fixed a bug where the "Increased Critical Hit chance if you've Shapeshifted into an animal form recently" stat would not function unless you also had another stat that tracked shapeshifting.
• Fixed a bug where the Wings of the Phoenix Level-Up Effect would play every time you stopped sprinting with Phoenix Dodge Roll Effect equipped.

This is a client side fix. You will need to restart and update your game for the changes to take effect.

0.4.0f Patch Notes

• Added support for the upcoming Path of Exile announcement and new Supporter Packs.
• Map Portals in towns and hideouts now display "(Complete)" on their label once the map has been completed.
• Fixed a bug where you could be permanently slowed for the remainder of an instance after performing certain actions while slowed. For example, this occurred if you stepped out of Chilled Ground while picking up an item.
• Fixed a client crash.

It's time for some more Path of Exile 2 racing action starting from the 29th of March PDT! While the races are open to everyone, the purpose of them is to crown players that are willing to prove themselves against others. With the addition of the Druid and 21 new skills, the next race is sure to be a thrilling watch!

In this season's set of events, players will compete to be the first to kill Tavakai in Act 4 in a Solo Self-Found Fate of the Vaal fixed layout environment. While this is not a Hardcore Event, players will incur a penalty upon death where they will not be able to move until a two and a half minute period has lapsed. It will also be the first race to include the new Fate of the Vaal league content!

We'll be posting the ladder links below (when they're ready) so you'll be able to check who's leading in real-time during each race, or check the best times after the race to see how you fare against the top players.

In order to join, click the "Join" button for the race in the Character Select screen. You'll then be prompted to create a character. Once you've spawned in, you won't be able to move your character until the race starts.

These races will be open to PC and Console with a shared prize pool.

Event Times and Dates

• Race 1: March 29th 12PM PDT
• Race 2: April 4th 12PM PDT
• Race 3: April 12th 12PM PDT

We suggest that you join the races early, as each race will start at the same time for all players.

Prizes

The Demigod's Virtue Unique item will be up for grabs for the top placement of each class:

• Ranger
• Sorceress
• Witch
• Monk
• Warrior
• Mercenary
• Huntress
• Druid - New

This means in each race, eight Demigod's Virtues will be awarded. Future events will include other classes when they're added to Early Access.

As we do more race events in the future, we'll cycle through all the Demigod's items. They'll eventually represent an entire armour set including weaponry, so you might be able to collect the entire set if you're good enough!

Upon the conclusion of each race, a Remove-Only stash tab will be added in your core leagues where you can choose to remove the item from the tab to equip it, show it off, link it to others or keep it there as a trophy for the ages. Or you can trade it away if you don't care, your call!

If you want to use it as a cosmetic, you'll be able to convert it into a microtransaction using the /convertracereward chat command.

All future leagues will have this Remove-Only stash tab too, but they will only become available one month into the league.

We're also awarding more prizes in this set of races! The fastest times for each class across all three races will receive their choice of one of the new Official Path of Exile 2 Displates:

Rules

These races are free to participate in and anyone is welcome to join. Streaming your POV will not be mandatory for this event. There are no limitations to how many races you can join, which means you will be able to win multiple Demigod's Virtues if you're skilled enough!

Please note that the use of inappropriate character names (i.e. those that breach our Terms of Use) during your run will result in you being disqualified from participating in that event or future race events in the series. If you plan to stream your run, these rules will also apply to throw-away stream names for those that are streaming on alternate channels. Please also note that any character names that appear to be attempting to subtly skirt the rules or get around them while still being generally appropriate will count as a breach in this instance. If you want to play it safe, just use your regular stream/race names that people regularly know you by. If you're using an alt to obscure your strategy, that's okay but please keep the above rules in mind.

Grinding Gear Games staff will be excluded from winning prizes in these events.

IMPORTANT RULE UPDATE

This race will be the first race where there will be special restrictions made only in the race event.

Both Incinerate and Flame Breath will not be able to be selected in the Gemcutting menu, as their interaction with Oil Grenade will be fixed in 0.5.0.

• Fixed Amanamu's Void monster modifier dropping multiple additional Omens, instead of just 1.

It's been over two months since the launch of the Last of the Druids, so soon it will be time to talk about the next big update for Path of Exile 2.

Towards the end of April we will be announcing our full plans for the 0.5.0 update including all the changes we will be making to the endgame as well as the new league! It's a pretty huge update, so stay tuned.

In the meantime, there is still plenty of time left to play in the ongoing Fate of the Vaal league. Fate of the Vaal will end right before 0.5.0 is released. After that, your characters and their items will be migrated to the Standard or Hardcore Early Access league. There will not be any wipes, so once migration is complete, you can play your characters in the Early Access leagues.

• Fixed a bug where Temple Medallions could not be seen or picked up by the temple owner while playing in a party.
