There are only so many warnings the Education Department can give before it starts taking action against noncompliant states.

he New York City Council is set to vote on a bill that would raise their salaries by 18.2% – after a Mayor Zohran Mamdani-appointed advisory committee recommended a pay raise for city leaders.

Democratic Council Member Nantasha Williams sponsored the bill following the release of a report by the three-person Quadrennial Advisory Commission that Mamdani put together. The report says the council should pass a measure to increase salaries for NYC’s borough presidents, council members, city officials and district attorneys.

The bill would increase Williams and her colleagues’ salaries from $148,500 to $175,500 backdated to January, Mamdani’s from $258,750 to $305,800 and Council Speaker Julie Menin’s from $164,500 to $194,000. Both Mamdani and Menin have said they wouldn’t accept the increases.

The new proposed salary for Mamdani, a democratic-sociaist, would put his pay higher than the combined salaries of the governors of Florida and Texas. And New York City’s council members would earn more than members of Congress and state legislators in every U.S. state: the base salary for Congress members is $173,900, and the average annual base salary for a state legislator was $47,904 in 2025.

Currently, Democrats have 47 seats in the U.S. Senate to the GOP’s 53. In the upcoming midterms, if Democrats want to gain control of the Senate, they must hold on to all of their seats and flip four. According to the latest polling from the New York Times/Sienna, that’s not going to happen.

The Democrat Party’s primary hopes lie in flipping Texas, Maine, Ohio, Iowa, North Carolina, and Alaska.

Conservatives rallied around Justice Clarence Thomas on Tuesday as he wrote about the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that upheld state laws barring biological men from women’s sports.

Thomas followed the high court's ruling to uphold state laws preventing transgender athletes from participating in women's sports with a concurring opinion, saying, "Men and boys with gender dysphoria are not women or girls, even if they believe that they are. Sex is an immutable ‘biological’ characteristic, see ante, at 10; it is binary; and ‘man’ and ‘woman,’ ‘boy’ and ‘girl,’ are the terms that correspond to adults and children of each sex."

He added, "To use language to obscure reality to show ‘indifference regarding the truth’— is to lie to the public and cease to treat our fellow citizens ‘as equal[s].’"

Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson broke from the Republican Party, stating that he was no longer able to support a party that “puts the interests of a foreign country above those of its own citizens.

While speaking on an episode of the Can’t Be Censored podcast, Carlson criticized the Trump administration for not being serious when it comes to strengthening the U.S. relationship with Canada and for being “completely focused on the Middle East.” Carlson also stated that the United States had gone to war with Iran “because of pressure from the prime minister of Israel.”

Carlson also pointed out that Canada is the United States’ “closest ally in the world” and “most important,” adding that “what happens in Canada matters a lot more than what happens in Israel or Lebanon or Iraq or Iran.”

When asked by host Karman Wong if he thought that the upcoming midterm elections would be “the first chance” to get a “temperature read” on how Americans feel about the Trump administration, Carlson pointed out that the polls “tell a pretty clear story about it.”

“Well, the poll numbers now are … tell a pretty clear story about it. I would not support the Republican Party, there’s no chance I would support the Republican Party,” Carlson said. “No going to support the Democratic Party, I don’t know what I’m going to do. But, at this point, how could you support, how could I or any American voters support a political party that’s not loyal to the United States? That puts the interests of a foreign country above those of its own citizens?”

Maine Democrat Senate candidate Graham Platner is facing yet more scrutiny after archived social media posts surfaced containing graphic remarks, controversial political statements, and comments about military veterans.

The posts, recovered from Platner’s former Reddit account and reviewed by multiple outlets, remained accessible through internet archives despite efforts to remove much of his online activity. Among the material drawing attention was a response Platner posted in 2014 to an online discussion asking users to share offensive jokes.

Under the username P-Hustle, Platner responded to a Reddit prompt asking users to share “the most f*cked up, jaw-dropping, offensive joke you know?”

Platner replied with a joke that referenced incest, bestiality, and necrophilia.

“I was eating out my grandmother and it tasted like horse cum,” Platner wrote. “So that’s how she died…”

Additional archived posts showed Platner making sexually explicit remarks in various online discussions. In one thread, he wrote about associating the smell of portable toilets with masturbation. In another, he praised a drawing of male genitalia using graphic language.

One of the posts that generated significant attention dated back to 2013, when Platner weighed in on a discussion thread titled “shorts that prevent you from being raped.”

Responding to the post, Platner said:

Holy fuck, how about people just take some responsibility for themselves and not get so fucked up they wind up having sex with someone they don’t mean to? Men and women, you make a choice to consume enough of a substance to lose your self control. So if you don’t want to be in a comprising situation, act like an adult for fucks sake.

The recovered comments extend beyond sexual content. Platner also discussed his political beliefs on the platform, including describing his path toward communism. Other posts expressed support for Hamas’s military tactics and included remarks directed at a recipient of the Purple Heart that critics viewed as hostile toward wounded veterans.

The United Kingdom is set to see its seventh prime minister in the past ten years, and it appears that man will be Andy Burnham, a veteran Labour Party Westminster insider who has sought to cast himself as a “socialist” working-class hero.

Andy Burnham will return to the House of Commons on Monday after having spent the past ten years outside of the London political bubble as Mayor of Greater Manchester. Previously serving as the MP for Leigh from 2001 until 2017, his return was orchestrated over the past year as it became clear that outgoing Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer was unable to inspire public confidence.

Starmer successfully blocked Burnham’s first bid to return to parliament — a necessity for him to launch a leadership challenge — at the Gorton and Denton parliamentary by-election in January. However, the PM was unwilling or perhaps unable to block his candidacy a second time after anti-Breitbart censorship activist Josh Simons vacated his seat in Makerfield following last month’s local elections that saw Labour lose major ground in once safe territory to Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party.

Last week may have sealed Starmer’s fate, as Burnham, bolstered by his local popularity after a decade serving as Mayor in conjunction with voters strategically backing his campaign with the ultimate aim of ousting Starmer, won a convincing victory over Reform. This apparently convinced the Labour top brass that Burnham was the party’s best shot at retaining power and preventing Farage from taking over Downing Street.

While there was initially talk of other potential challengers in a leadership contest over the summer, it appears that Burnham is set for a coronation rather than a battle, with top rival Health Minister Wes Streeting quickly announcing his support for Burnham after Starmer’s resignation. The liberal legacy media was also quick to fawn over the supposed political saviour, with the BBC even chartering a helicopter simply to cover his train journey from Manchester to London with bated breath.

A federal judge, appointed by President Joe Biden, has blocked President Donald Trump’s administration from using an updated verification system, known as the SAVE program, to remove foreign nationals from state voter rolls.

On Monday, Judge Sparkle Sooknanan, appointed to the United States District Court for the District of Columbia by Biden, issued an order to prevent the Trump administration from using a streamlined version of the federal government’s SAVE program to combat voter fraud.

The update to SAVE allowed states to more quickly verify that only American citizens are voting in federal elections by no longer requiring that all nine digits of a voter registrant’s Social Security Number have to be entered to verify eligibility.

“This case implicates two fundamental rights that protect Americans from government overreach: the right to privacy and the right to vote,” Sooknanan, an immigrant from Trinidad and Tobago, wrote:

In the past year, several federal agencies have joined forces to create a centralized federal database that contains the private information of United States citizens, including Social Security numbers, citizenship status, and other sensitive data. [Emphasis added]

But decades ago, Congress put protections in place to prevent precisely this type of centralized data bank. And the record in this case shows that the federal agencies that created this database knew that the database violates those statutory protections. The agencies were scrambling to comply with an Executive Order aimed at reshaping federal elections, which directed them to create a system for mass voter verification. So they haphazardly combined and repurposed the private information of millions of Americans, including citizenship data that they knew to be unreliable. Since then, states have partnered with the federal government to access the database and are actively removing United States citizens from voter rolls based on inaccurate information. All in all, the federal government has knowingly trampled on the privacy rights of American citizens in a manner that threatens the sacred right to vote. This Court cannot stand idly by while that happens. [Emphasis added]

A U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) spokesman previously told Breitbart News that the updated SAVE program was necessary to ensure “America’s elections are reserved exclusively for American citizens.”
