I’m sick of closing a post and losing it into the abyss, so I had an idea. Similar to how you can see recently viewed communities, what if we also have a list of recently viewed posts?

But here’s the fork in the road:

Option 1: we group all posts together into one feed, no matter what account you viewed them from. For this to work, we have to disable voting. That’s because grouping viewed posts from multiple accounts kinda breaks down the barrier between accounts. This is ok as long as the posts are read only. You can vote on them if you open them first. The benefit is you can find a post more quickly without considering what account you viewed it from.

Option 2: the list of viewed posts is per account. If you view a post on account A, and you open recently viewed posts list from account B, the post from account A will be missing from that list. You have to switch to account A to see posts viewed from account A.

What do you think of this feature?

Do you prefer option 1 or 2?

I did already try asking about this issue in !home@lemmy.zip with a response from the instance admin that there shouldn't be any issues, so I'm going to post here in case this is a blorp issue. I've been unable to log into blorp.piefed.zip or blorpblorp.xyz over a VPN, and when I log in and turn my VPN on again posts and other content do not load. The same issue occurs on the mac app. This doesn't happen with my old instance on blorp, the Blorp android app (weirdly piefed.zip logs in and loads content fine on the app), or piefed ui. I apologize if this is an instance issue and something that can't be sorted out here.

Hey, when sharing links via blorp, and with it set to share from "my instance", it generates links in a format that doesn't work when clicked, tapped like so https://piefed.social/post/2030635/11190080

It requires removing the final number string to work.

I'm not sure what's doing it, but it only happens with the setting like that

I made a comment below with each of the settings, for comparison

On android, it is possible to set apps to be able to open certain links in app, and many Lemmy and Piefed clients, such as Voyager and Thunder have this. I would suggest adding this functionality, where one could go into settings and allow Blorp to open posts and comments from various Lemmy and pieces instances. (Image attached above of the menu I am referring to in case my explanation was confusing)

I downloaded Blorp a few days ago, and mostly it's been really good. The only problem I have is that I can't sort by "new". I click on the running man icon and the menu shows up empty, except for some faint arrows. I clicked on an arrow and the word "new" appeared, but I wasn't able to select it. Help appreciated!

The current way to add an emoji reaction on Android is the following:

  1. Click the three dots' menu button
  2. Choose React...
  3. Choose Other...
  4. Tap the text field saying "Enter an emoji"
  5. Press the smiley button next to the space key.
  6. Find the desired emoji
  7. Tap on the emoji

This is quite a chore, actually!

Firstly, I'd request for at least the top5 emojis used by me to show right after I've tapped React.... Preferably 10.
Secondly, if the "Enter an emoji" text field was active immediately, it would reduce one click from the process even if I'm using some emoji I use less often.

I can generate ideas way faster than I can actually work on those ideas, so please rank which of these you want to see most:

  • Expand post to load more types on content directly in Blorp (e.g. redgifs were added recently)
  • Less comments moving/shifting around as they load (most noticeable on posts with 100+ comments)
  • Fix Android full screen video controls getting cut off (if you've seen this bug)
  • The groundwork to allow viewing posts that aren't in communities, which could maybe (no promises) make mbin possible
  • Comment jump button, which jumps to the next top level comment
  • Translate Blorp into other languages
  • Continue adding support for nsfw content viewing
  • Streamline login experience
  • Edit alt text in posts and images in comments
  • Edit community sidebar in Blorp
  • Create communities in Blorp
  • Promote moderators in Blorp
  • Or anything else you wanna add

My time is limited, and some of these could send me on a 1+ month journey which would delay other work. Choose wisely

  • New theme system with a Dracula dark theme

  • Create and edit polls on PieFed communities

  • Alt text labels on images in comments

  • Saved comment indicator now show in profile, search, and inbox

  • Fixed an issue where profiles with lots of comments would stop loading

Love to see early implementation for redgifs video embeds! Afraid they are booked for me on android app. Getting a "failed to load video" instead. When I open in browser on my instance's website videos embed fine so its not the poster's fault.

Would have posted on GitHub but don't want to associate my github with a redgif issue lol. Keep up the good work!

I'm laying the groundwork that will allow you to use different accounts in different tabs. That wasn't really the intention of the work I was doing, but it turned out to be a happy accident.

You can try it out using this experimental build:

Is a "new comments" feature planned? Highlighting the newly posted comments in a post since last time visited?

It's a very handy feature to follow discussions in a post.

15

Let’s say you click on a NSFW post on home tab, a community, etc, should it unblur the post? Currently you have to click the “show nsfw” button. If you open the post, it requires a second click.

I’m thinking about making it so it unblurs when you open the post. The exception would be if someone direct links you to the post. The I will still require you click “show nsfw”.

If you agree it should unblur, then what should happen when you return to home, the community, etc? Should it reapply the blur or remain unblured in the feed of multiple posts?

How do I donate? (fedinsfw.app)

I quite like using Blorp, and I would like to donate some of my money to the devs. How best to do this? The dollarydoo is quite strong at the moment so that is a bonus.

Not accepting donations? Happy for an admin to pick a cause dear to their heart and I'll donate to that instead. (Unless I find it objectionable 😁)

~~Someone made a pretty imo unfairly negative post about Blorp:~~

~~I just wanted to take a moment to than you all for your amazing support. I feel very lucky that I've made it over a year with very little negativity from my users. Everyone is overwhelmingly polite and patient.~~

~~If you have the time, I would love some comments on that post from real users. Even if the comment is politely critical of my app.~~

~~There are still many people who haven't heard of "Blorp" and I would hate for them to get a bad first impression.~~

~~I should probably not engage with the haters. Clearly I need a marketing person lol. Maybe I'll delete this.~~

Edit: my original reason for making this post was kinda dumb, but I really appreciate all the support in the comments so I don't delete it

This site will also serve as a rough roadmap as well as a way to share the links to download Blorp. If you wouldn't mine looking at the "Feature Matrix" section and let me know:

  1. What is missing
  2. What needs to be corrected
  3. How it could be better organized

Whatever you ask to be added to the feature matrix is more likely to be added to Blorp.

My goal is to make the feature matrix all green checkmarks. Thanks!

I can see in the settings section that I can manage blocks, but I can't seem to find how to block a community.

How do I block a community? (Web or Android app)

It's been pretty quiet around here. I had a pretty slow January working on Blorp, but I found more motivation in February. So I'm back at it.

A few Blorp experimental builds I'm currently working on (experiments are web only):

Depending on when you're seeing this, I may or may not have already merged these into https://blorpblorp.xyz/. Once it's merged there, it's in the pipeline for Android and iOS.

Let me know if you like this format where I show you working examples of what I'm building.

22

Each time I try to login using Feddit.online (a piefed instance) Blorp would kick me back into lemmy.world while showing that i'm still not logged in

If a segment of text is formatted in bold, italics or strikethrough, that formatting remains if it is subsequently also turned into a hyperlink. If that hyperlink is then selected and updated to a different link, however, the non-hyperlink formatting disappears.

24

If the bold, italicize, or strikethrough formatting options above the keyboard are selected, they only toggle on once the next character is typed. If that character is then erased, the formatting still remains.

Similarly, if the options are tapped again to disable them, they are not visually disabled until the next character is typed.

There are several issues with posting that could be improved:

  1. An untitled post is listed as Untitiled rather than Untitled in the draft menu.
  2. After creating a post, a new draft is automatically created rather than taking the user back to the draft menu. Perhaps this behavior could be a toggle.
  3. Similarly to 2, if there isn't an untitled draft when the Post button is tapped for the first time after the app is opened, a new draft is automatically created. If that draft is then deleted, this behavior does not reoccur until the app is closed and opened again. Some users may prefer to always open the page to a draft rather than the draft list, so perhaps this could also be a toggle.
